Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all smiles on his first international multilateral engagement. At the BRICS summit, Modi talked tough and said that the five countries --Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- should show no tolerance towards terrorism.
He said that the “choices we make now will shape the future of not just our countries, but the world at large”.

The summit is also being considered a success after it was announced that India would have first shot at presidency of the BRICS bank, which would be situated in Shanghai.

Just three hours after his arrival in Brazil for the BRICS summit, Modi and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping spoke for 80 minutes — overshooting the scheduled 40 minutes — on a range of issues, including the boundary issue. Xi invited Modi to the 21-member Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting being hosted by China in November.

Other initiatives Modi suggested were an affordable BRICS healthcare platform, mechanism to further cooperation between small and medium enterprises and a common framework for promoting tourism.
