Whenever a bigwig is sentenced by a court to imprisonment, it has become a routine for them to immediately seek medical treatment for a heart condition. Recently in the Ruchika molestation case, when main accused SPS Rathore was sentenced by the Chandigarh court, he immediately sought medical attention claiming that he was suffering from a heart ailment.
Whenever a politician or a bigwig is convicted, an entire charade of a medical ailment is staged and in the presence of TV cameras and papparazzi, the person is rushed to hospital and is discharged a few days later.
Rathore, a former director general of police has been convicted for molesting Ruchika Girhota, when she was a teenager in 1990.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, against whom the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department are investigating money laundering charges, propmptly checked into hospital when his arrest became imminent.
Koda managed to avoid getting arrested by being admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Raipur. He was later arrested by the ED when he was discharged form the hospital where he was admitted for a urinary problem.
Harthal Halappa, who was minister for Food and civil supplies in the Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka, had to quit over allegations that he had sexually assaulted a social worker's wife.
After a complaint was subsequently registered against Halappa, he admitted himself into a hospital complaining of blood pressure and diabetes.
Satyam founder and scam tainted CEO, Ramalinga Raju was also hospitalised eight months after he was arrested. Raju, who was held in January 2008, was admitted in September 2009 to a hospital in Hyderabad complaining of chest pains.
Raju's younger brother and company's managing director Rama Raju and Chief Financial Officer Vadlamani Srinivas are also in the same jail.
Satyam was later sold to Tech Mahindra.
