We bring you a presentation of some of the best photos from around the world in the month gone by

A Yawalapiti boy dips his head into the Xingu River in the Xingu National Park, Mato Grosso State.

In August the Yawalapiti tribe will hold the Quarup, which is a ritual held over several days to honour in death a person of great importance to them.

This year the Quarup will be honouring two people -- a Yawalapiti Indian who they consider a great leader, and Darcy Ribeiro, a well-known author, anthropologist and politician known for focusing on the relationship between native peoples and education in Brazil.

The old tower is seen collapsed after an earthquake in Finale Emilia. A strong earthquake rocked a large swathe of northern Italy early on Sunday, killing at least three people and causing serious damage to the area's cultural heritage.

The epicentre of the 6.0 magnitude quake, the strongest to hit Italy in three years, was in the plains near Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of the Po River Valley.

Wrangler Nate Cummins takes the opportunity to ride by moonlight, the night before the Super Moon during Montana Horses' annual horse drive outside Three Forks, Montana.

The Mantle family, who own Montana Horses, held their last horse drive where they rounded up approximately 300 horses and drove the herd 35 miles from their winter range to the Mantle ranch.

The horses will be picked up by leasers to be used as pack and trail horses at dude ranches and national parks. Photo taken May 4, 2012.

At least five people were killed when a shell hit the minibus they were using to flee fighting in a town north west of the capital, as African Union and government soldiers intensify their fight against al Shabaab militants.

Earlier this week, African Union and Somali government troops stepped up their attacks on al Shabaab militants in Mogadishu's northern outskirts, forcing hundreds of families to flee their makeshift homes and head for the city centre.
