Arjun Vajpai, 17, decided to celebrate the anniversary of the most memorable day of his life in a rather unusual manner.

The teenager became the youngest Indian to climb Mount Everest on May 22 last year. On Friday morning, at approximately 8.10 a.m, he scaled the peak of Mount Lhotse to mark the anniversary of the event.

Mount Lhotse, located in Nepal, is the world's fourth highest peak.

Arjun's mother Priya Vajpai was the first one to hear about her son's latest achievement, when he called her from the summit from his satellite phone.

"I have reached the summit," an exuberant Arjun told his mother.

"He sounded excited. He told me that reaching the peak and looking around gave him a wonderful feeling. I am delighted that he has made it," Priya told rediff.com, talking about her son's solo expedition.

"I could not ask him whether he encountered any difficulties during his long climb. But that can be taken care of at a later stage once he reaches the base camp. What matters to all of us is that he has reached the peak," said the proud mother.
