It's yet another instance of the power of the internet in today's world. An online petition seeking help for fluorosis-affected people in Surendran Nagar locality of Gujarat's Kashipura district has received over 2000 responses in no time.
The campaign, started by Kashipura resident Niru Rathod through social action website change.org, has ensured that 40 fluorosis victims, who had been suffering due to high fluoride content in the local water body, get immediate treatment.
Her petition also promoted the district authorities to order a routine check-up for all villagers and provide medical care.
Says Niru, "In less than a week, I received more than 2000 signatures from all over Gujarat on my petition. I had not imagined this kind of outpouring of support. It is amazing to see thousands supporting Kashipura village in north Gujarat and helping these villagers get treatment."
