2 killed, 11 injured as lorry rams train

In a freak mishap, two commuters were killed and 11 injured when a sand-laden lorry rammed into a suburban electric train at Palavanthangal, near Madras airport.

Police sources said the mishap occurred when the lorry coming on the Grand Southern Trunk road, running parallel to the railway line, climbed on the track while reversing.

The train, on the Tambaram-Beach route, was slowing down as it approached the Palavanthangal station.

The victims were sitting near the exit when they were hit by the lorry. It severed two passengers's legs.
