Lyricist Anjaan dead
Anjaan, the celebrated lyricist, died on Wednesday at the Nanavati hospital in Bombay following a massive heart attack. He was 67 and is survived by his wife, two sons, including lyricist Sameer, and a daughter.
Family sources said he had suffered a paralytic stroke two months ago and that he had been in hospital for the past month.
The funeral took place on Friday morning at Juhu crematorium. It was attended by many film personalities.
Born on October 28, 1930 in Varanasi, Lalji Pande alias Anjaan came to Bombay in 1953 to try his
luck in films. He got his first break in Premnath's Golconda ka Qaidi and never looked back penning about 1,500 songs for more than 300 films.
Anjaan worked with several music directors including Kalyanji Anandji, R D Burman and Bappi Lahiri. Some of the songs which became memorable wereO Saathi re, Salame ishq meri jaan, Rote hue aate hai sab from Muqaddar ka Sikander, Khaike paan Banaraswala f rom Don, Ye waqt ki pheri hai from Hera Pheri.
