On June 8, 2007 rediff.com published an article by Ajit Jain, its senior editor in Canada, titled 'A poster with dire implications.' The World Sikh Organisation has informed Ajit Jain that the information in that article is completely false, and rediff.com has since withdrawn the article from the Internet.
Ajit Jain and rediff.com apologise to the World Sikh Organisation, who have made the following corrections to the errors in the article:
1. The WSO did not have any plans to host any dinner on June 9. The event in question was slated to be held on June 7, 2007;
2. The photograph of the poster shown in the article, which is in fact the poster that was used to promote the event in question, is a photograph of sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. This is a person who was killed during an attack on the Golden Temple in 1984, and the poster was intended to commemorate that event. This event is commemorated by the Sikh community internationally, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, SGPC, which is the governing body for Sikh places of worship;
3. There is no similarity between the poster allegedly used in the Surrey event and that used by the WSO;
4. The WSO is in no way connected to the organisers of the event in Surrey;
5. The WSO has consistently advocated against violence, and there is no evidence to suggest that it is supportive of any violence or violent activities;
6.
