Woman molested, father assaulted in WB's Birbhum district

A woman was molested by miscreants in the presence of her father who was beaten up near the main market in Suri, Birbhum district headquarters town on Monday which led to street protests, police sources said.
The miscreants also assaulted those who rescued the woman from their clutches, the sources said.
The incident sparked protests with residents, including women, from three localities gathering at the Suri police station demanding the immediate arrest of the molester and the others, they said.
A two-hour road blockade was also set up on the Suri-Rampurhat road with burning tyres and bamboos.
The blockade was lifted after Additional Superintendent of Police, Debasmita Das, intervened and promised action.
