A woman on Saturday hurled a slipper at Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at an election rally in Baberu area of the district, but it fell short of the leader.

Yadav was leaving after addressing the rally when one Murti Singh threw her slipper at him, which missed the SP leader.

The woman, who was detained by the police, claimed she was a rape victim. She claimed that Yadav had promised to provide her Rs two lakh in 2009, but did not honour his commitment.

Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Yadav accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance at the Centre of promoting corruption and scams.

"The Congress did not do any development work in 40 years of its rule and always promoted corruption and scams," Yadav alleged.
