Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan's Shura (the supreme council) has decided that Hakimullah Mehsud will not directly meet the media as it would help spy agencies locate him.

Speaking to rediff.com from an undisclosed location, Azam Tariq, Taliban spokesperson, said, "After a spurt in the drone attacks, it is decided that he would not talk directly to media, as it could endanger him. Telephonic contact with journalists or inviting media for press conference to Waziristan could help agencies locate Hakimullah Mehsud."

On Mehsud's reported death, the spokesperson said, "Through such propaganda and baseless news, the government is trying to divert the attention of the people from many crises in the country. It would also help Pakistan get United States aid announced in Kerry Bill."

When asked why the TTP head is not appearing before media, Tariq shot back, "There is no need for Mehsud to appear before the media after each and every such baseless news. Every time the ministry claimed Mehsud is dead, he re-emerged. I think if Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has any integrity left, he should resign."

He said, "The ministry has lost its credibility after claiming Mehsud's death many times. We are in no hurry. One day, if the situation permits, we will carry a video of him that will not only shatter Pakistan, but also the rest of the world."

Asked about a news appeared in local media that Maulana Tofaan, a cleric from Orakzai, has been appointed as acting TTP head till the Shura Appoints new leader, Tariq said, "Once again it is propaganda against the Taliban to create a rift amongst them. Every day, similar news is planted in the media."
