What PM told Hazare after the Parliament resolution

August 27, 2011 23:01 IST

Immediately after Parliament agreed to Anna Hazare's three key demands on Lokpal Bill, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday sent him a letter conveying the same and urged the Gandhian to give up his 12-day fast.

"As you know, Parliament today discussed Lokpal related issues. You will be happy to know that both Houses of Parliament have passed a resolution on the three points raised by you," Dr Singh said in the letter which was handed over to Hazare by Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The prime minister told Hazare that according to this resolution, Parliament has in principle agreed on the three points -- a citizen's charter, lower bureaucracy to be included under Lokpal through an appropriate mechanism and establishment of Lokayuktas in all states.

"Parliament has also resolved to send today's proceedings to the department-related Standing Committee for its perusal while formulating its recommendations," he said.

"I hope that in view of the Parliament resolution, you will end your fast without any delay and will get back to good health. We all wish you a good health," Dr Singh said.
