The president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai on Thursday renewed his call to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar to give up violence.

One of the world's most wanted man, Mullah Omar, has been on the run while leading a Taliban insurgency on the Unites States backed Aghan government in order to oust Karzai.

Karzai has repeatedly called on Omar and other insurgents fighting in the region to give up violence and accept peaceful reintegration.

"I repeat my call on all Afghans, those who aren't the puppets of others and have (only) issues with us at home --they're welcome for any talks," he told a news conference.

Karzai said that Omar was welcome to come and set up political offices in the region, form his political party and fight elections. He even said that he could run for the president's post but would have to give up the gun.

The Taliban have, however, in the past repeatedly turned down Karzai's peace offers.
