A technical snag hit the Indian Air Force plane carrying Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Rajasthan Governor Anshuman Singh from Varanasi to New Delhi shortly after takeoff on Monday.

Official sources said that the pilot safely landed the aircraft at Babatpur airport near Varanasi 15 minutes after takeoff.

The vice-president was returning to Delhi after a two-day visit to the city.

After waiting for sometime at the airport, Shekhawat went back to the Circuit House and was expected to leave by another plane, which had been requisitioned from Delhi, the sources said.
