The Mumbai police traced four granddaughters of Bihar Land Revenue Minister Ramai Ram to a city hotel on Wednesday night.

Following a tip, the police raided Hotel SeaRock, where they found Ujjala Rani (16), Sweta Rani (15), Khushbu (14) and Varuni (12).

With them was Sayyed Umar, a 16-year-old former classmate of Ujjala Rani.

The girls' mother, Geete Devi, is a member of the legislative council. Apprehending that they were kidnapped, the father, Vijay Kumar, had lodged a first information report with the Sachivalaya Police Station.

"We only have seen the love of our parents," Ujjala Rani said. "So when they scolded us for watching TV, we were hurt, and left home."

The girls first went to Kolkata and from there they came to Mumbai.

Inspector Manmohan Tiwari from Bihar, who is investigating the case, said, "The boy was a classmate of Ujjala Rani in Don Bosco School in Patna. We have arrested him and taken him to Bihar for investigations."

The girls' parents will come to Mumbai on Thursday evening.
