Five teenagers have been arrested on capital murder charges for beating an Indian American to death and robbery.

The suspects were charged on Saturday in the death of 44-year-old Kavinderpal Banga, who died Friday night.

He was found unconscious on Wednesday evening at Banga Auto Sales on Pinson Valley Parkway in the Birmingham suburb.

A native of India, Banga was a US citizen who had lived in Birmingham for about 10 years.

He is survived by his wife and two sons aged four and five months.

"How do you tell a 4-year-old that his daddy won't be coming home?" asked Banga's sister, Manpreet Manda, of London, who arrived on Friday to be with Banga's wife, Karamjit.

Manda said a customer discovered the injured Banga and called the police.

Police used phone numbers listed in Banga's cellphone to locate a friend, who helped them contact Banga's wife.

Manda said her brother never regained consciousness, and the family decided on Friday to have him taken off life-support.

Two vehicles that were stolen from the car lot were later recovered. The police said the suspects were three boys and a girl, all 17, and a 15-year-old boy, all from Birmingham.

One suspect surrendered on Friday, and police arrested the rest on Thursday.
