UP: RTI activist shot at, BDO booked

An RTI activist was seriously injured when unidentified assailants shot at him in Deepnagar locality of Sonebhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said.

An FIR has been registered against three persons including a block development officer after Amarnath Pandey, 55, an RTI activist and homoeopathy doctor, was fired at yesterday with a country made pistol, they said, adding he was admitted to a hospital.

Pandey, also a Congress worker, had tried to expose corruption in development block Ghorawal due to which government had issued a recovery order of Rs 30

lakh from the concerned officers for misappropriation of funds.

Last week also, Pandey was hit by a jeep when he was returning home on his scooter. Meanwhile, demanding immediate arrest of attackers, Congress activists staged a sit-in.

Superintendent of Police, Deepak Kumar said that police have launched a manhunt to nab attackers.
