5 ultras killed, 4 arrested, 60 kg explosives seized in J&K

Security forces shot dead five ultras including a Pakistani national, arrested four Hizbul Mujahideen militants alongwith 60 kg of explosives and busted a hideout in separate operations in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Wednesday.

Four ultras were killed in a major gunbattle at Shogun in Shopian area of Pulwama district Wednesday, the sources said.

Acting on specific information about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtra Rifles raided the village in the wee hours Wednesday. The militants on seeing the troops opened fire triggering an encounter, the sources said.

One of the slain militants was identified as Javed Ahmad Thokhar, also believed to be members of Hizbul Mujahideen, is being ascertained, the sources said.

In another encounter, they said troops of Rashtriya Rifles killed a Pakistani militant affitiated to Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit, Kaleem Ullah, during search operations at Fidderpora village of Rafiabad in Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Four militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were arrested from different places in central Kashmir Badgam district, a police spokesman said adding, some ammunition and 60 kg of explosives were recovered from him.

He said serurity forces also busted a hiddout at Tugar Dhoke in Poonch district and seized seven kg of explosives from there.
