The anti-talks faction of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom on Thursday flayed the police and security forces of the "colonial Indian government" for "killing four Assamese youth", branding them as Maoists, at Sadiya in Tinsukia district.

In a statement issued to the media, the ULFA stated that failure of the Indian democracy to improve the condition of the masses has led to an upsurge of Maoist movement in the country.

"Though we have differences in principle, we morally support the Maoist movement against the common enemy --the Indian government. We extend our condolences to the families of the slain Maoist leaders," the ULFA stated.

The insurgent group accused the government of adopting double standards in tackling the Maoist menace.

"In the rest of the country, the government tries to strike an understanding with Maoists to get abducted VIPs released. But in Assam, they don't think twice before killing Maoist leaders," stated the ULFA.

The ULFA alleged that the encounter deaths of Assamese youth on Wednesday once again exposed the "colonial" government's belligerent attitude towards the people of Assam. It called upon the Assam police to stop "killing Assamese youth at the direction of New Delhi".
