UK: 6 charged for trafficking Indian woman

Six people from London have been charged in connection with trafficking a woman from Hyderabad, the police said on Friday. The woman has not been named.

The suspects are charged with several counts including sexual assault, actual bodily harm and making threats to kill the victim.

The suspects are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on bail on June 7.

A Scotland Yard statement said the suspects include Shashi Kala Obhrai, 58, an optician who is charged with trafficking within the United Kingdom, actual bodily harm and making threats to kill.

Balram Kala Obhrai, 53, a computer entrepreneur, is accused of trafficking into the UK and making threats to kill.

Other suspects are Enkarta Balapovi, 53, a butcher, Shanaz Begum, 56, a shop worker, Aleemuddin Mohammed, 44, a supermarket manager from Harrow, and Shamina Yousuf, 42, a secretary.

The Yard statement said, "This investigation relates to an alleged victim of human trafficking, sexual assaults and ABH. She is from Hyderabad, India."
