2G case: Mamata does a U-turn, joins demand for JPC

After promising support to the United Progressive Alliance government over the 2G Spectrum controversy, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee took the Congress by surprise when she joined the Opposition in their demand for a joint parliamentary committee on Monday.
Banerjee did a U-turn at the all-party lunch meet hosted by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday afternoon, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in their call for a JPC probe.
Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay clarified his party's stand saying, "Let's face the JPC, why say no to it? We are the second largest ally of UPA II and our voice should be heard. It's the government's responsibility to conduct the business of the House."
Congress leaders were caught unawares by Banerjee's new stand after she pledged her support to the UPA on Sunday night over the 2G issue following an hour-long meeting with Mukherjee.
