Two army soldiers were killed and three others wounded in an ambush in the Mendhar sector of Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu region on Tuesday evening.  A defence spokesman in Jammu confirmed two soldiers had been killed and three others wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in came under fire near the LoC.

"The vehicle came under hostile fire either from across the Line of Control or from the militants on this side. We are ascertaining the details of the incident," the spokesman told rediff.com. He
said troops have surrounded the area and are conducting searches.

The army has been holding that with the opening of the mountain passes militants waiting on the launch pads across the LoC will try to sneak into this side. The army has been on a high alert and has so far foiled several attempts by militants to intrude into Jammu and Kashmir.
