Security forces gunned down two terrorists of the Harkat-ul-Mujaheedin in Poshnag village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district where another encounter has broken out in a forest area near Sopore town.
A senior police officer said troops of the Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded a house in the Poshnag village, 65 kms from Srinagar on Thursday evening on a specific information about presence of a group of terroists inside it.
"As the security forces challenged the terrorists to surrender, they opened fire resulting in an encounter which has ended on Friday morning. Bodies of both the militants of Harkat-ul-Mujaheedin were recovered from the debris," he said. The officer said arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists.
The house in which the militants were hiding was destroyed during the gunfight.
The officer also said troops of Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded the Zaloora forest area near the Sopore town in Baramulla district on Friday morning where a group of heavily armed terrorists are believed to be hiding. He said a gunfight has now erupted and the cordon around the terrorists is being tightened.
