Two persons were killed and two rescued when a nearly 50 year-old building at the busy Triplicane area in Chennai collapsed on Wednesday morning.
Fire and Rescue Department officials put the toll at two and said two persons were rescued from the debris after the collapse.
Many teams of rescuers were involved in the operations.
The incident sent shock waves around the area as neigbours alleged that the building owner had not paid heed to their advice to take up repair works.
Earlier, officials faced some difficulty in rescue operations owing to a space crunch in the area and had to exercise utmost care, they said. Electricity supply also snapped in the wake of the collapse.
