Two headmasters of government run schools were beaten to death in Bihar allegedly by some powerful people in the last twenty-four hours.
In first shocking incident, Pramod Kumar Jha, principal of a middle school under Ujiyarpur police station in Samastipur, was beaten to death by some villagers over a land dispute on Tuesday morning, when he was on way to school, police said.
In second case, Ashok Kumar Yadav, headmaster of Bhadwakol middle school under Haveli-Kharagpur police station in Munger was beaten to death on Monday by some powerful men, who allegedly demanded 'rangdari tax' from him for construction of the school building, police said.
Samastipur Superintendent of Police Varun Kumar Sinha told rediff.com over telephone that Jha was beaten to death with iron rods over a land dispute by some villagers.
Kumar said that an FIR was lodged against seven people in this connection.
Angry over the incident, local residents attacked police station and ransacked office. They also staged a protest demanding arrest of the accused in the case.
This incident has come a day after Ashok Kumar Yadav was beaten to death by some men, who allegedly demanded 'rangdari tax' from him for construction of the school building, police said.
The slain headmaster had lodged an FIR against three people in this connection.
According to police, powerful men on Monday morning visited the headmaster in the school and asked him to withdraw case against them. But the headmaster refused their demand which angered them and they first abused him and then thrashed him.
"The headmaster died on the spot and the accused fled," police said.
The headmaster's family have lodged a case and alleged that he was killed after he refused to pay 'rangdari tax' to the accused.
