Two CRPF jawans killed in militant firing in J-K

Two paramilitary, Central Reserve Police Force troopers were killed in a militant attack on a road opening party of the CRPF in south Kashmir Pulwama district on Thursday evening.

A senior police officer said militants opened fire at the ROP of the CRPF at Pando Larian near Awantipore, 30 km from capital Srinagar.

“Militants fired from a close range at the two jawans injuring them critically. The injured jawans were evacuated to hospital or treatment, but succumbed,” the officer said.

The two jawans of 130 battalion CRPF were part of the ROP guarding the strategic Jammu Srinagar national highway.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot immediately along with reinforcements. The area is now being searched.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi was in Pulwama earlier in the day to inaugurate Asia’s largest apple packaging facility along with the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
