Afghanistan’s political district was rocked by violence on Thursday when Taliban terrorists blew up a British embassy vehicle and later gunfire broke out at an army base.
Earlier in the day, a suicide bomber targeted a British embassy vehicle in Kabul, which killed 6 people and injured dozen others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a warning to Western powers trying to back Afghanistan’s government.
The bombing was followed by a separate, sustained attack in the heart of Kabul’s diplomatic quarter. The assault began with a loud blast that rattled windows in the Wazir Akbar Khan district, and was followed by intense gunfire that lasted more than an hour.
Reports said that Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack too, saying they were targeting a guesthouse that foreigners often used.
Taliban fighters also launched a coordinated attack on Shorabak army base in the southern Helmand Province.
Shorabak, formerly known as Camp Bastion, was handed over by the UK to Afghan forces last month and comprises an airbase located northwest of the city of Lashkar Gah. The base houses barracks for the Afghan National Army.
