A computer science student, who pursued ethical hacking course, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sending an email threatening to blow up a news channel's office here, the state Anti-Terrorism Squad said.
The accused identified as Sagar Kashyap had hacked his friend's email id and on Sunday sent a threatening email to the channel's head office in Delhi stating "Stop me if you can, Imran Azar Khan hereby challenge to blast the channels head office Mumbai on 12, August 2010", the ATS officials said.
The 20-year-old accused is the son of a railway motorman and resides in New Railway Colony in suburban Kurla, they said.
Following the email, the channel officials complained to the Delhi police, who later informed about it to the ATS, police said.
Going by the email address from where the threatening message came from, the ATS traced a youth.
During his questioning, the youth pleaded that he had nothing to do with the mail and his computer id had been hacked, the ATS said.
Further probe led to detention of Kashyap, who after being grilled admitted to have sending the mail to the channel.
"He is a techno-savvy and pursued ethical hacking course. Kashyap is a second year computer science student in a college," the official said adding, "Kashyap wanted to check if the firms or companies dealing in sending mails would send such threatening messages or block them," the official said.
Further probe was on.
