In the wake of the State Human Rights Commission's findings -- that over 2,000 unidentified bodies are buried in 38 sites in north Kashmir -- Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said there was a need for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to find out the truth about what has happened in the Valley in the last 21 years.
"I have said this before I assumed governance and repeated it afterwards; there is a need for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. That commission should be assigned to find answers to the incidents of the last 21 years, both by militants and security forces, which have raised questions," Omar said on Monday on the sidelines of a function.
Omar said he would also want questions raised by the SHRC to be answered.
In its inquiry report, the investigative wing of SHRC said that it was "beyond doubt" that unidentified bodies buried in unmarked graves existed at various places in north Kashmir.
Omar said the issue of unmarked graves will be raised at the Unified Headquarters meeting on Tuesday.
"To make an immediate comment on it will not be appropriate for me. We also want to know who all are buried in those graves," he said.
