Donald Trump’s newly opened, luxury hotel in downtown Washington, DC was defaced over the weekend, with someone spray-painting the phrase “Black Lives Matter” on the facade of the the luxury hotel, which is positioned along Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Washington.

The vandalism comes in the heat of a racially charged presidential contest. Hillary Clinton, who has met with Black Lives Matter protesters, said in their presidential debate last week that Trump “has a long record of engaging in racist behaviour”.

Twitter user @AngryBlkManDC posted a video Saturday of the Trump International Hotel being spray painted.

The graffiti was reported to the police on Saturday, said Metropolitan Police spokeswoman Aquita Brown. The graffiti is now being covered up with plywood, and no arrests have been made.

The Trump International Hotel opened on September 12.

The Trump Organisation won a 60-year lease from the federal government to transform the historic Old Post Office building on Pennsylvania Avenue into a hotel.

It’s located less than a mile from The White House.
