The toll in the Gyaneshwari Express disaster in West Midnapore district rose to 136 after the recovery of 121 bodies till Saturday night. Fifteen of the wounded victims also succumbed to their injuries on Saturday.
The bodies were found from underneath the engine of the goods train which rammed into five of the 13 derailed coaches of the train, West Midnapore District Magistrate N S Nigam said.
He said that 62 bodies had so far been identified and handed over to relatives.
Nigam said rescue work, which was halted because of rains, will resume on Sunday.
Authorities fear that more bodies might be trapped under the S6 coach. The tracks could not be cleared till late in the evening as the derailed coaches had not been removed.
