India tests indigenous torpedo

March 08, 2003 19:20 IST

India on Saturday tested its indigenously produced torpedo in Vishakapatnam.

With this, it joined the elite club of eight countries to have such a capability.

Manufactured by the Hyderabad-based public sector undertaking, Bharat Dynamics, the torpedo would undergo further trials, a company spokesman said.

"The design of the torpedo involves state of the art technology areas including hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, structural design, electrical, electronics, electro-chemistry, and software," the spokesman said.
