Deen Nath Kapur, after serving as private secretary to eight CBI directors since 1983, will demit office on March 31.

In total, Kapur -- described as a conscience-keeper for the top-rung --  served the CBI for 41 years. From a part-time stenographer, he rose to a private secretary who had the status of a DSP.

Though the CBI has offered him to stay as a retainer for another year, he has decided not to. CBI director Ashwini Kumar is hosting a farewell dinner to Kapur.
