November 06, 2010 16:46 IST

The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress are gearing up for the assembly polls in the state, scheduled to be held next year.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the Congress' political emissaries from Delhi are in constant touch with both the DMK and the AIADMK.

Interestingly, the first meeting to discuss pre-poll arrangements was held on Saturday, when Home Minister P Chidambaram met DMK chief Karunanidhi. The duo reportedly discussed various political issues including the condition of Sri Lankan Tamils and the DMK's approach towards the Congress in the winter session of Parliament.Minister A Raja, who is facing massive corruption charges.

The Congress MPs have decided to stay quiet: They will neither join the BJP's motions nor support Raja

The 16 MPs of DMK will not take a stance on the Commonwealth Games scams, for which the Congress has already faced a considerable amount of heat from Opposition parties, say sources. According to them, the DMK will neither support nor join motions moved by the Bharatiya Janata Party to bring up the scams.

In reciprocation, the ten Congress MPs from Tamil Nadu will distance themselves if the BJP seeks a motion on Telecom

Meanwhile, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has called a meeting of the party's MPs at her residence in Poes Garden at 6 pm on Sunday. The AIADMK supremo will discuss the issues to be brought up by her MPs during the winter session and also the future alliances of the party.
