July 23, 2015 01:49 IST

Mumbai Police are making special security arrangements to deal with any possible fallout on law and order front after the hanging of Yakub Memon, convicted in the 1993 serial bomb blasts in the metropolis.

Memon's execution is slated on July 30 at Nagpur Central Jail. After the hanging, his body would be handed over to his family members, police said.

The 53-year-old's body will be brought to his residence at Mahim in Central Mumbai.

"His burial might take place in the city," said a police officer, requesting anonymity.

"Right from the airport to his house and at the burial ground, police will maintain tight security arrangements," he said.

As a preventive action, police would detain some people with criminal antecedents and keep strict vigil at sensitive places in the metropolis.

Leaves of all police personnel have been cancelled till July-end, said the officer.
