Three militants from the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland led by Raknaj Daimari were shot dead in an encounter by security forces while a senior leader of the outfit was apprehended in two separate operations in Assam in the wee hours of Saturday.

Three NDFB ultras were killed in an encounter with the army at Lakhipur in Goalpara district of western Assam. The army recovered three pistols and ammunition from the slain militants.

In another incident, security forces apprehended the 'deputy-commander-in-chief' of the NDFB Richa Sapamari after an encounter at Moinaguri in Sonitpur district of Assam.

The security forces recovered an AK 47 assault rifle from the NDFB leader.

The NDFB ultra was involved in last year's carnage of non-Bodo villagers at Bhimajuli near Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

Though the Ranjan Daimari faction of the NDFB had declared a unilateral ceasefire on December 31 last year, it is reportedly continuing with extortion operations. The outfit was involved in the recent abduction of six WWF volunteers near Manas National Park near the India-Bhutan border in the state.
