March 12, 2015 20:37 IST

A man, said to be a Tamil Nadu police sub-inspector, allegedly beat up his daughter on a street in Bengaluru with about 50 people simply watching it with pictures of the incident posted on a Facebook page by a techie going viral.

A city-based programme manager at a tech firm has posted pictures on her Facebook page showing a man who she said is a sub-inspector with Madurai police beating his daughter on the street while her mother watched as a mute spectator.

The parents suspected that their daughter employed in the city was in a relationship and was hence “teaching her a lesson” and refused to listen to her or believe her denying it, the post along with the picture, alleged.

“Barely a few days since #IndiasDaughter stirred the world, we witnessed another shameful incident in Bangalore today,” Nivedita Chakraborty said in her post which has been liked and shared by over thousand five hundred people.

“The girl is working in Bangalore. The man beating her up on the streets publicly is none other than her father, ... a sub-inspector with Madurai police. Her mother, a silent spectator of the entire incident is a teacher in Madurai.”

Narrating the incident, she said, “On our way to office, me and my friend Archana were shocked to see a girl aged about 25 being beaten black and blue by a strong well-built man, with at least 50 people standing on the street and simply watching.”

“Me and Archana rushed out of the car, pushed the man back in an attempt to loosen his grip on the girl. He was grabbing the girl by her hair, slapping her, kicking her in the groin as she fell down on the road,” Chakraborty said.

“Archana started pushing the man while I tried untangling the girl’s hair from his fingers. Once freed, we along with the girl sought refuge inside our car,” she said, adding that the man sat down on the car bonnet, refusing to let us drive.

Stating that the father wanted to take her back to Madurai against the wishes of the adult daughter and forcibly marry her to someone of their choice, Chakraborty in her post says, “The mother, a teacher, kept blaming the girl for the shame that she has brought upon her family.”

“We called the police who came after 30 minutes and took the family away to Ulsoor police station,” she added.

Police said someone had called the control room and informed about the incident. “Our men had gone there, but the parents and daughter left saying they will sort out the issue. No complaint was registered.”
