With the Rajasthan assembly election predicting a landslide victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party, its chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje says she was always confident of winning the election.
"I was confident of winning. I had full faith in my public," Raje said in her first reaction after the electoral trends became clear.
Raje reportedly conducted a two hour-long prayer at the Tripura Sundari temple in Banswara district before she received news of the BJP's huge win.
In Jhalawar, which her only child Dushyant Singh represents in the Lok Sabha, Raje told reporters, "I thought we would win 120, 125 seats, but it is going to be more than that."
When asked if she considered the election the semi-final before next year's Lok Sabha election, Raje said, "This victory will only help us in the Lok Sabha election."
She maintained that the triumph was the joint effort of all the BJP's senior leaders including party President Rajnath Singh and the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi.
Raje will leave for New Delhi on Sunday evening to confer with senior party leaders.
This will be her second term as chief minister.
When she won the 2003 assembly election, it was the first time that Rajasthan had a lady chief minister, and the first time the BJP won an absolute majority.
