The best housing conditions in India. Where does your state stand?

We bring you two indicators of housing conditions across India from the National Sample Survey 69th round (2012).

The map above shows the percentage of households living in dwelling units that were owned freehold in the period of the survey (2012).

The percentage of households living in freehold accommodation is one of the two indicators of housing conditions across India from the National Sample Survey 69th round (2012). The survey report acknowledges the importance of home ownership with the words, "Ownership of the dwelling unit can be considered as the most secured tenure status."

The other interesting statistic that indicates whether living quarters are spacious or cramped is of households where married couples have a separate room. The numbers as reported in the survey are visualised in the map below.
