"The Baba was hiding in a saree of a female devotee when we arrested him at 4.15 am." said G K Plillai, home secretary while talking to rediff.com. He said Baba is on his way to his ashram in Hardwar in police custody, and he is calm and cooperating.

He added that he is expected to reach by noon.

Pillai said, "When we told him that he doesn't have permission for fast on the ground and we showed him the papers for his externment orders he was uncooperative. He asked for some time and then jumped off the stage to hide in crowd."

Pillai refused to accept charge that the government used excessive force against peaceful demonstrators. He said, "How can you say that? We didn't fire. No one has died. Only four injuries have been noted so far."

Pillai, added, "We have not at all used excessive force to evacuate the 20,000-strong crowd." He said that New Delhi is calm and a police force has been deployed to tackle any possible emergency.
