Highly-placed sources in the Assam police said that several jihadi elements from different areas of Assam were working for international terror outfits after undergoing training.

The police have sounded an alert across Assam.

Explosives made by members of the Jamatul Mijahideen Bangladesh at Burdwan in West Bengal were dispatched to Assam and other parts of the Northeast.

Police said that JMB member Shamin Shakil Ahmed, who died on October 2 while making bombs at Burdwan in West Bengal, used to visit Barpeta district in Assam in the guise of a garment merchant. Investigations are on to identify other members of the module.

Sources informed that Al-Qaeda, JMB and Indian Mujahideen were working for an “integrated Islamistan” in South East Asia region.

The Assam police on Friday arrested 6 people for having links with jihadi elements in the Dhubri sector of western Assam along the India-Bangladesh border.

The arrests come after the Assam police stepped up vigilance in the area after threats of infiltration from the Bangladeshi side.

The six persons arrested have been identified as -- Siraj Ali Khan, Rafiqul Islam, Saiful Islam, Johoruddin, Goam Osmani and Sarbesh Ali.
