Telangana youth hangs himself near Parliament

A 23-year-old youth from Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday is suspected to have committed suicide, apparently upset over delay in carving out a separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.

The body of Mandadi Adhireddy was found this morning hanging from a tree in the lawns behind Krishi Bhawan, close to the Parliament in the heart of the city, police said.

A resident of Rangareddy district of Andhra Pradesh, Adhireddy left a 10-page note in Telugu, suspected to be a suicide note, which is being translated, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Seju P Kuruvilla told reporters.

Adhireddy had arrived in Delhi on July 18 after boarding a train from the Kachiguda Railway station in Hyderabad. "From a bag beside the body, we have recovered a mobile phone, identity card and phonebook," Kuruvilla said.

The boy's relatives have been notified and the body has been sent to the RML hospital for post-mortem. Recently, people and lawmakers of Telangana region have mounted a campaign for carving out of a separate state from Andhra Pradesh.
