Telangana Congress leaders rule out resignations

The Congress leaders from Telangana region have made it clear that they would not resign from their posts as there has not been any indication from the party that they would not grant a separate state.

Madhu Yashki, Congress Member of Parliament from Telangana, told Rediff.com that they would be supporting Sunday's march, but the issue of resignation from the party has been ruled out for the moment.

He said that at no point has the Congress in New Delhi and Andhra Pradesh said that they would not grant a separate state.

"We would love to hear the announcement for a separate state right now, but there are certain compulsions and issues as a result of which there is a delay," he said.

"We are meeting with all the leaders on how to take this movement forward and we are sure the Congress will not let us down. We will chalk out our course of action and hope there is some reaction to this issue from the Union government," he added.

"I belong to the ruling party and have to act within the framework of the party. I am saying so because at no point has the government said they would not hand over Telangana. If they had said no to our demand, then the matter would have been different. Let the government say no to our demand then we will think of some other action. To be honest, even the Telangana Rastriya Samithi believes in the Congress. When the opposition trusts the Congress, how can we from the ruling party take a different stand?" he asked.

"We as leaders are trying to stop the repression of the movement. There is only a delay now in the formation, but there is no negative answer from the Congress," the leader said.

"We would want the state right now, but also must bear in mind that a government does not work with deadlines," he sought to point out.
