Team Anna free to support, oppose any party: Cong

Congress on Tuesday refused to attach significance to Team Anna's reported decision not to campaign against any party in assembly elections in five states saying they are free to support or oppose any political party.

"They can do that. They have right to do what they want to. Congress is not concerned with the decision taken by Team Anna. If they want to oppose any party, they may oppose. If they want to support any party, they may also do that," party spokesperson Rashid Alvi told the media in New Delhi.

His comments came a day after Team Anna's Core Committee met at Ghaziabad amid suggestions that the anti-corruption movement should not target a single political party in future.

It left the final decision to Anna Hazare, who did not attend the meeting due to poor health.

Earlier, Team Anna was accused of targeting Congress in its campaign.

This was the first meeting of the team after Hazare called off his agitation programmes for a strong Lokpal last month. It came amidst "confusion" in Team Anna on how to take the movement forward.
