TC nominates Biman Banerjee for speaker

Trinamool Congress Legislature party on Monday formally nominated party leaders Biman Banerjee and Sonali Guha for the posts of speaker and deputy speaker respectively in West Bengal assembly.

This was announced by deputy leader of Trinamool Congress Legislature Party and Industry and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee. The meeting was presided over by Trinamool Congress head and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Chatterjee said election for the post of the speaker and deputy speaker would be held when the assembly would be called for session. Biman Banerjee, a lawyer was elected from Baruipur (Paschim) seat in South 24 Parganas district and Sonali Guha, a leader of the party's women's wing and a long-time associate of Mamata Banerjee won from Satgachia constituency in the same district.

Trinamool Congress, Congress and Socialist Unity Centre of India combine has 227 members of legislative assembly while the Left Front has 62 legislators in the 294-member West Bengal Legislative assembly.
