Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu were shot at when they were campaigning for the presidential election.

Reports on the Internet said the president was hit in the abdomen and has been rushed to a hospital.

The incident occurred in Tainan province. An official told mediapersons that the injuries were not life-threatening. The election would go on as scheduled, he added.

The president is seeking a second term in office.
