Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy on Friday ruled out re-investigation in the Suryanelli rape case that has returned to haunt Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien.

"After fresh revelations, we again got legal opinion. There is no scope for re-investigation," he told reporters at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in New Delhi.

The statement assumes significance in the face of demands for prosecution of Kurien after the victim in the case pleaded that he be made an accused in the context of Supreme Court reverting the issue to Kerala high court.

There have also been demands that Kurien should resign as deputy chairman.

Ruling out his resignation, he has been insisting that he is innocent. He met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari to explain his position.
