A 21-year-old student was allegedly shot dead by the son of a Manipur minister, police said on Monday. Irom Roger was allegedly shot dead by 27-year-old Ajay Meitei, son of Manipur minister for iIrrigation, flood control and sports, N Biren Singh on Sunday evening at Kwakeithel area of Imphal West district, they said.

Meitei chased Roger in a vehicle and allegedly shot him from a M-20 pistol, they said, adding that Meitei later surrendered to the police with his weapon. Police suspect personal enmity led to the killing.

On Monday, hundreds of people from Roger's locality went to the official residence of the chief minister and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action against the killer. Security at the official residence of N Biren Singh has been reinforced with more security forces deployed as people from Roger's locality are planning to march to his residence, police said.
