Fake sting operation: Aspiring journalist gets bail

A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to Rashmi Singh, an aspiring journalist and the co-accused in the fake sting operation case.  The sting operation had implied that Uma Khurana, a school teacher, was involved in the flesh trade and was forcing young students to accompany her clients.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Aggarawal granted bail to Singh after she furnished a personal bond and a surety of Rs 20,000 each.

"The accused Rashmi Singh, being a small-time reporter, was persuaded by the main accused Prakash Singh to participate in the sting operation . She was promised a job in a news channel in return," the court said.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police had submitted that the sting operation was a fake one and Khurana had no role in the alleged offence. Earlier, the court had granted bail to Khurana saying, "She was more a victim than the offender in the alleged sex racket case."

Prakash, a reporter of Live India channel that aired the sting operation, was arrested after it was discovered that Singh, who appears in the video making allegations against Khurana, was not a student but an aspiring journalist.

Prakash and Rashmi have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those relating to cheating and criminal conspiracy.
