The rags-to-riches story of Abdul Karim Telgi, the alleged kingpin of the multicrore fake stamp papers scam, has hit the silver screen.

Marathi film Shalya, which was premiered on Thursday, directed by Hemant Kumar Sharma and produced by Ashok Gajanan Chaugule, narrates the tale of protagonist Roasaheb Nelgi -- played by Vilas Ujwane -- who produces fake stamp papers, notes and challans, industry sources said.

The narrative moves to Nelgi tying up with corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and police to break the country's economic system. The plot also throws up a murder of an upright police officer, who tries to break the nexus and expose the scam.

The film, starring Anand Jog, Sudhir Dalvi, Smita Oak besides Ujwane, portrays poetic justice with the inspector's son trying to avenge the murder and have the guilty punished.

The film will be released in various theatres in Mumbai soon, the sources added.

Chaugule is also the producer of the film Kaagar, revolving around the encounter specialist Sub Inspector of Mumbai police Daya Nayak.
